Nestle increase demand for H2O Chemicals Ltd
Since Henri Nestlé began his investigation into child nutrition, Nestlé has been a research-based company. Now it leads the way in food and nutrition research, with an international research head quarters in Vers-chez-les-Blanc, in Switzerland. Each company can draw on this investment in researching new products and advancing their own knowledge of the scientific aspects of nutrition.
Nestlé in the UK manufactures some of the most popular brands including KitKat, Shredded Wheat, NESCAFÉ, Buxton, Quality Street, Aero and Milky Bar.
Nestlé has been in the UK market since 1868. Today the Nestlé structure within the UK is organised into Nestlé UK Ltd (consisting of confectionery, beverage, food and foodservice operations), Nestlé Purina Petcare, Nestlé Waters and Cereal Partners. Nestlé has 23 sites across the UK, including York, Croydon, Halifax and Tutbury. Nestle UK’s current employment figure sits at over 7000.
H2O Chemicals Ltd. has maintained a close relationship with Nestle UK since originally servicing the Castleford site in 1992. Following unfavourable internal audits of its water systems at the Halifax site by the internal Technical Department, it was recommended that an alternative supplier be sourced. Consequently H2O Chemicals Ltd. was contacted to carryout the Legionella control for the Halifax site, which is now profiting from far higher levels of performance production.
Once appointed, H2O Chemicals Ltd. carried out a range of services including:
- Legionella Risk Assessment
- Clean and chlorination of cold water Storage tanks
- Clean and chlorination of air handling unit condensate trays
- Sampling of process and drinking water
On completion of the site survey, it was discovered the condition of the air handling unit condensate trays were particularly poor and it appeared that the cleaning and chlorination of these had been neglected by the previous water services provider. Many of the units had a significant build-up of bio-films and several were only accessible with specially built scaffolding.
Ryan McNeill, site services technician, Nestle UK, commented: “From the observations I made I would suggest that the previous water treatment company had simply placed chlorinating tablets in the trays they could reach and ticked all the relevant boxes. The service H20 Chemicals Ltd provided on the AHU's was exceptional and I would certainly recommend that they are used on your site in future.”
