Bradford & Bingley Plc’s main activities are:
- Lending - providing a wide range of residential mortgages, secured commercial property loans and loans to Housing Associations
- Retail - which sells a wide choice of financial products through its branches and direct channels, including Bradford & Bingley’s own savings products
Bradford & Bingley Building Society was formed in 1964 as a result of the merger of the Bradford Equitable Building Society and the Bingley Building Society, both of which were established in 1851. In July 2000, the Society’s voting members overwhelmingly endorsed a proposal from the Board of Directors to convert to a public limited company. The flotation on the London Stock Exchange took place on 4 December 2000 and Bradford & Bingley Plc (B&B) was formed.
When work began on the Aire Valley Trunk Road, Chris Wilkinson, facilities manager for operations and planning, was concerned that the extensive earth moving works would have a detrimental effect on air quality supplied to the personnel working in the HQ building of B&B. H2O Chemicals Ltd were contracted to carry out a site survey including indoor air quality monitoring to evaluate any changes in the supplied air make-up, as well as plant inspections to monitor system conditions. Once complete, the success of the operation led to further recommendations of H2O Chemicals Ltd to the London HQ building. H2O Chemicals Ltd now supply B&B with an extensive range of products and services including:

- Legionella Monitoring and Control
- Indoor Air Quality Monitoring and Treatment
- Legionella Risk Assessments
- Cleaning and Chlorination
- Legionella Awareness
- Responsible Persons Training
A number of employees at B&B have now attended both the Legionella Awareness and Responsible Persons Training courses, giving the company sound knowledge on legislation and Legionella control.
