SHOWER HEAD CLEANING AND DESCALING

The temperature at which showers deliver water is ideal for pathogens to proliferate.  Combine this with their intermittent use and aerosol and you have an ideal breeding ground for the legionella bacteria.  Cleaning and descaling on a regular basis therefore minimises the risk of any bacterial growth.

What does the ACoP L8 say?

The Approved Code of Practice and Guidance L8, “Legionnaires’ Disease – The Control of Legionella Bacteria in Water Systems” says that it is essential systems be kept clean “because the efficacy of the control method …. may be reduced substantially in systems that are fouled with organic matter such as slimes or inorganic matter such as scale”.

Dismantling, cleaning and descaling is therefore required on a quarterly basis or more frequently as necessary.
