Food Safe Chemicals
FOOD SAFE CHEMICALS FOR STEAM PRODUCTION
INTRODUCTION
Our extensive range of technically advanced steam boiler water treatment chemicals have been developed for use with a wide range of different types of steam boiler plants – from low to high pressure. The quality boiler water chemicals will prevent the occurrence of the problems associated with this type of plant, such as hard water scale, boiler corrosion, condensate line corrosion, fouling and sludge by suspended solids and boiler water foaming.
In accordance with the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) the following are listed in Section 173.310 as approved chemicals:
SEC. 173.310 BOILER WATER ADDITIVES
Boiler water additives may be safely used in the preparation of steam that will contact food, under the following conditions:
(a) The amount of additive is not in excess of that required for its functional purpose, and the amount of steam in contact with food does not exceed that required to produce the intended effect in or on the food.
(b) The compounds are prepared from substances identified in paragraphs (c) and (d) of this section (173.310), and are subject to the limitations, if any, prescribed:
(c) List of approved substances (see table)
STEAMCHEM B151F
A concentrated solution of catalysed sodium bisulphite which removes oxygen in steam boiler systems up to pressures of 60 bar. Dosed via a chemical dosing pump, ideally to the feed tank to allow time for the oxygen to be absorbed before entering the steam boiler. This product complies with FDA regulations for steam that comes into contact with food (see sodium metabisulphite).
STEAMCHEM B152F
A tannin based oxygen scavenger ideally suited to low temperature feed waters. Since the dose rate is not dependant on the feed water temperature (compared with sulphite) and because it is organic it does not add to the boiler water conductivity. This product complies with FDA regulations for steam that comes into contact with food (see Tannin including quebracho extract).
STEAMCHEM B153F
A caustic based product that can be used as a pH adjuster for steam boilers where there is insufficient alkalinity in the feed water. This product complies with FDA regulations for steam that comes into contact with food (see sodium hydroxide).
STEAMCHEM B154F
A combined phosphate and polymer treatment for use as a scale and sludge conditioner for steam boilers, particularly effective against calcium silicate. This product complies with FDA regulations for steam that comes into contact with food (see sodium tripolyphosphate).
STEAMCHEM B156F
A mixture of cyclohexylamine and morpholine for preventing corrosion in condensate pipework. See cyclohexylamine and morpholine (each not to exceed 10 parts per million in steam, and excluding use of such steam in contact with milk and milk products).
STEAMCHEM B157F
Based on sodium sulphite, anti-precipitant and sludge conditioners and is specifically formulated to provide a convenient and complete oxygen scavenging and scale precipitation for small steam boilers; thus maintaining the plant at optimum efficiency with minimal manual involvement.
STEAMCHEM B915
A volatile, liquid, catalysed solution of diethyl hydroxylamine (DEHA) used to remove dissolved oxygen from the feed water for medium to high pressure systems. It minimises oxygen pitting and corrosion potential and is designed for use in many types of steam boiler systems. Does not add to boiler TDS. It is the preferred replacement for the suspected carcinogen hydrazine. See Diethylaminoethanol (not to exceed 15 parts per million in steam, and excluding use of such steam in contact with milk and milk products).
