Closed Circuit Treatment
INTRODUCTION
In 1997 the British Standards Institute (BSI) published a revised BS2486. In it they included information for the treatment of closed heating systems. This reflects the greater importance attached to these systems as well as their increased complexity. Chilled water systems are also susceptible to the ravages of corrosion and microbiological fouling and it is often forgotten when an air blast chiller replaces a cooling tower that if the closed circuit is not correctly treated then problems can ensue.
REASONS
Consideration of closed heating and chilled water systems reveals that they can very quickly become prey to microbiological fouling, scale and corrosion leading to the formation of sludge and suspended solids and ultimately blockages and reduced heat transfer.
OUR SERVICE
We prefer to be involved at the design stage where we can advise on pre-commission cleaning, flushing and treatment from the very beginning of the system’s life. It is at this stage that seeds are planted for problems later on. We can advise on materials of construction and their treatment, dosing systems and pre-treatment plant. We can supply and install filtration systems and our range of chemical products includes:-
- corrosion inhibitors
- biocides
- dispersants
- antifreeze
- cleaning products
- filtration systems
Our chemical products are all supported by our in-field technical services to ensure the treatment regime in operating to its specifications.
