Cleaning and Disinfection

Introduction

Stored water is always susceptible to contamination and degradation. This can allow conditions to develop which supports the growth of micro-organisms. To maintain water quality the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) recommends regular inspection and cleaning and disinfection of water services including storage tanks, calorifiers, downservices and cooling systems.

Reasons

The proliferation of Legionella can occur due to sludge and nutrient build-up in water services. For this reason ACoP L8 recommends the cleaning and disinfection of cooling systems twice yearly and other water services if routine inspection shows it to be necessary.

Our ServiceCleaning and chlorination

H2O Chemicals Ltd comply closely with the requirements of ACoP L8 but in addition produce a detailed Method Statement which addresses both technical and health and safety issues. Where required, we operate our own "Permit to Work" system. All work is detailed in the Visit Report Sheet left on site and followed up by a typed "Certificate of Disinfection " for inclusion in the site Log Book.
